Leora L. Wile, BSN, RN, CEN

Committee Chair, SSS Nautilus

Leora L. Wile, BSN, RN, CEN, currently serves as the Chair of the Ship 461 Committee, a position that she has held since the Ship's original chartering on 1 October 2012.  As Committee Chair, Leora oversees the running of the Ship Committee in matters involving:  1) the selection of the Skipper and Mates; 2) supervising Ship funds and property; 3) ensures that the Ship runs in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Boy Scouts of America; and 4) is responsible for completing the annual Ship re-chartering process.  Her husband, Timothy P. Wile, is currently the Skipper of SSS Nautilus.

Leora's involvement with Scouting began upon her marriage to her husband, Tim, in 1985.  With her husband already active in scouting as an Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 461 in Souderton, Leora found herself involved as a first aid instructor to the Boy Scouts as well as a merit badge counselor for a number of health care related merit badges.  Her involvement increased when her son, Zachary, entered Cub Scouts with Cub Pack 397 in 1997.  When her son bridged to Troop 461 in December of 1998, Leora followed him to the Troop and actively supported the Troop's program.  She was eventually convinced to become a registered member of the Troop Committee and was the Committee's health care individual - a position that she held until December 2013.

Leora is a fully-trained Sea Scout Adult Leader and Troop Committee Member.  She is also the recipient of both the Boy Scout and Sea Scout Adult Leader Training Award.

Leora is currently employed as a staff nurse in the Emergency Department of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Center City Philadelphia, a position that she has held for more than two decades.  She is also a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) and has held that certification since the latter 1980s.  Leora earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND, in 1979, and has been practicing nursing for more than 35 years.

In addition to Sea Scouting, Leora is quite active in her professional organization, the Emergency Nurses' Association (ENA), in which she is a life member.  She served as President of the Pennsylvania State Council of ENA for calendar year 2014 and is currently PAENA's immediate past president.  She also is serving her second year of a two-year term on the National ENA Advocacy Advisory Council.

Leora is also active with the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia where she is an active member of the Theatre's auction committee.

Leora and her husband, Tim, have two children, Theresa and Zachary, and two grandchildren, Peyton and Raquel Lugo.  Their son, Zachary, is an Eagle Scout and currently serves both on the Ship Committee and as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 399 in Montgomeryville, PA.
